Bt63 rice
On 09/04/2008 the European Commission issued a Decision for mandatory testing of the food and feed products listed in the Annex to the same Decision, originating in or consigned from China (Commission Decision 2008/289/EC of 3 April 2008 on emergency measures regarding the unauthorised genetically modified organism ‘Bt 63’ in rice products).
The European Commission requested to the Chinese authorities appropriate control samples for and the detection of “Bt 63” rice; upon their reception, the European Union Reference Laboratory for GM Food and Feed (EURL GMFF) verified experimentally the performance of the detection method developed and published by Mäde et al. (Mäde D., Degner C., Grohmann L., 2006. “Detection of genetically modified rice: a construct-specific real-time PCR method based on DNA sequences from transgenic Bt rice”. Eur Food Res Technol. 224; 271-278).
