| Detection of maize GM Event 32 (DAS-59132-8)
In February 2008 Dow AgroSciences LLC announced the voluntary retrieval from the US channels of distribution of hybrid maize seeds potentially contaminated by GM-maize line DAS-59132-8 (Event 32 or E-32). E-32 is declared to be a ‘sister’ event to GM-maize HERCULEX™ RW Insect Protection (59122, unique identifier, DAS-59122-7). E-32 maize line is not approved within the EU. The European Commission requested to Dow AgroSciences LLC control samples and a detection method; upon their reception, the European Union Reference Laboratory for GM Food and Feed (EURL GMFF) verified experimentally the performance of the detection method provided.
Following the announcement of potential contamination of maize seed products by GM-maize line DAS-59132-8 (Event 32 or E-32) and the testing of a detection method by the European Union Reference Laboratory for GM Food and Feed , the following documents are provided here:
The outcome of this evaluation as given in the attached publication ("Report on the Verification of the Performance of a Method for the Detection of DAS-59132-8 (Event 32) in Maize Using Real-Time PCR) reflects the situation as of that date (20 March 2008). The EURL GMFF will further investigate Event 32 particularly with respect to its molecular structure. It will keep the dossier under constant review and publish here any updates to the methods and other relevant information as soon as the need arises. In these circumstances, it cannot assume any responsibility, in contract or in tort or on any other basis, for any consequences whatsoever which may ensue from the use of the methods as published herein.
